Scientific name: coriandrum sativum
Family:Apiaceae
Local names: धणे( marathi), धनीया ( hindi).
Coriander is is Annual plant.It is also know as Chinese parsley or cilantro.coriander is native to southern Europe and Northern Africa to southwestern Asia. Coriander is mostly fresh leaves and dried seeds are used for cooking purposes.
Coriander plant is soft plant .leaves are green and seeds are yellowish Brown in colour.all parts of plants are edible but mostly fresh leaves and seeds are used.

Chemical constituents:
It cantains 4% of carbohydrates,protein 2%,fat 1% and water 92% .
Also it contains some vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, Thiamine B1,Riboflavin B2,Niacin B3,Pantothenic Acid B5,Vitamin B6,Folate B9 Vitamin C,Vitamin E ,and Vitamin K.
It contains some essential oil in it.
Coriander seeds cantains mixed polyphenols,terpenes.
Major Aroma due to Iinolon .

Uses of coriander:
*Coriander seeds are used as dried spice in various cousin's.
*Coriander rich in Immune boosting Antioxidants.
*According to researchers coriander is good for healthy heart and Brain health.
*Coriander also used as Appetite stimulants. 
*Coriander seeds are used in Ayurvedic prepartion like kadha,powder,churna .
If you have problem of painful urination use of coriander water is beneficial.
* coriander has Analgesics properties so also used in treating muscle pain,headache.
*Coriander juice is beneficial in dysentery.
*coriander leaves are used in various dishes as flavoring agent like salsa,salad,chutneys,Currie's,Biryani's,meat preparations, 
*In market there is verious products of coriander available like dried coriander seeds,powder.mostly fresh coriander  leaves are used for cooking.
